The international Major Entrance Scholarship at the University of British Columbia is one of the numerous scholarships which
the Canadian government provides and is open to international students from different

relating to the scholarship.
About The Scholarship
International Major Entrance Scholarships IMEs are typically awarded to outstanding
international students who have gained admission into undergraduate programs at the
University of British Columbia UBC. To receive the IMEs, students must be in their first
year at UBC.
These scholarships are renewable for up to three (3) additional years and are often
partially funded. This means that some part and not all of the tuition and living costs will
be provided for. So depending on available funds, the number of scholarships and level of
funding for these scholarships will differ each year.
About The Organisers
The University of British Columbia UBC, Canada is the educational and financial body
in charge of this particular scholarship. UBC is globally recognised as a citadel for
teaching, research and learning and has been ranked among the top 20 public universities
in the world. Also recently, they have been recognised as North America’s most
International University, due to their welcoming culture towards international students.
The University of British Columbia, Canada has been in existence since 1908, making it
one of the oldest universities in the world. UBC has two campuses, one in Vancouver and
the second in Okanagan.
UBC recognizes the academic performance of exceptional students from across the world
by allocating over $30 million every year to scholarships, awards and other forms of
financial assistance to international undergraduate students.

scholarship after applying to the school. You’ll be exposed to a community of engaged

and involvement.

Eligibility Criteria
The International Major Entrance Scholarship is a merit-based award. So consideration is
based on the student’s demonstrated academic achievements and extracurricular
involvement. Once you receive an offer of admission into UBC, you’ll automatically be
considered for this merit-based award. Aside from this, you must also meet the following
criteria to be considered for the IMEs.
- You must be new to UBC and be entering directly from secondary school.
- You must be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit i.e student visa.
- You must showcase outstanding academic achievements and intellectual potential as well as impressive extracurricular and community participation.
- You must not be nominated for a needs and merit-based International Scholars award.
- Lastly, you must apply before January 15.
Application Process
There is no separate application for the International Major Entrance Scholarships. Just
make sure to submit your admission application before January 15. Once you’ve received
an offer of admission to UBC, you’ll automatically be considered for the scholarship.
Selection Process
Students will be assessed based on their academic scores, ELP and SOP scores submitted
during admission application. Selection and final decisions as regards recipients of the
scholarship are usually taken between mid-March to April every year.
