Why choose Australia to work when there are many other countries to choose from?
This is one of the many questions people who want to go to Australia for work are
asked by friends and loved ones. Unlike other countries, many people have no idea of
the opportunities and potential Australia as a country has.
Australia is one of the countries where people in the international community move
for work or a better means of livelihood.
If you have been wondering why Australia is a good country to go to for work, below
are some reasons why you should work in Australia.
The Reason Why You Should Work in Australia
- Good economy
Australia is known for its thriving and fast-growing economy. The country is
known for its steady growth. In the world, Australia is known for having the
13th largest growing economy, and the rate of unemployment in the country is
at 5%, which is quite low and it means that the country has a lot of employment
opportunities for people. Even for blue-collar jobs, the country provides the
highest minimum wages. There is a constant need for individuals with
expertise and skills and the ever-growing economy provides enough job
opportunities which is why it is a good country to work in.
- Variety of work visa options
The government of Australia has many work visa options for people coming to
your country to work. The visa is issued to you based on your job qualification
or the skill set you have. There are work visas for temporary and permanent
employment, as well as work visas sponsored by your employer (if you already
have a job offer waiting for you). Due to recent events in the world like COVID-
19, it takes about 18 to 22 months for the work visa to get approved.
- A skill set program
In a bid to give opportunities to every job seeker with expertise in a skill, the
Australian government created a program in 2013 called the General Skilled
Migration (Skill Select). This program is used to assess applicants on a points-
based test and it is also used to allow people to migrate to Australia without
having an employer or a sponsor. Skilled migration has two types of visa
subclasses under it.
SkillSelect is Australia’s General Skilled Migration program. It is a points-based
test and is the most popular visa utility pathway for professional employees.
SkillSelect permits you to use it for a permanent Australian visa. To get a
professional migrant visa in Australia, you will need to have certain skills and
be able to speak the language. Through the SkillSelect pathway, professional
workers in certain jobs and fields can apply for homes in Australia based only
on their skills. This means they do not need to be sponsored by an employer
- Qualification recognition
For you to leave your home country to look for work in another means that your
home country doesn’t value the skills you have or you are not getting enough
recognition. Unlike most countries, companies in Australia value work
experience from people that are not Australian citizens. They believe that it
brings a new point of view to the workplace. If you have any high-in-demand
skills or qualifications specific to the job you want to apply for, you have a
higher chance of qualifying for the skillset program and getting a good-paying
job in Australia.
- Pension
Unlike some countries where people migrate for work, both citizens and non-
citizens of Australia are entitled to work and live in Australia. They are also
entitled to receive a pension or retirement savings account called the
- Good quality of life
Compared to other countries, Australia offers both citizens and non-citizens a
good quality of life. Students in Australia can say that their country is a good
place to live because it has good health care and a good social support system.
Australia has a third round for a country with very low population citiescities,
with 6.4 people per square mile. This makes it easier for things to work in the
country because it doesn’t have a high population density which leads to little
to no access to basic amenities by the citizens. Also, the pollution-free air, good
climate, and natural ecosystem of the country make it a good place to settle in.
- Secure environments
Being amongst one of the countries with the lowest crime rate and a working
police force, it is safe to say that Australia is one of the most secure countries to
live and work in.
- Opportunity to study
If you have plans to work and also improve your educational qualifications, you
can do so because Australia has a lot of courses of study with over 1,200
educational institutions.
Types of Skilled Migration Visa
There are six types of visa under the Skilled Migration Visa but when it comes to
working and settling down in Australia permanently with or without a sponsor, there
are two types of Skilled Migration Visa that extensively cover this. This doesn’t mean
that the other types of visas aren’t important.
The visa types that allow you to come to Australia, settle down and have a permanent
residence with or without a sponsor or an employer are:
- Skilled Independent Work Visa (Subclass 189)
- Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
Skilled Independent Work Visa (Subclass 189)
You can work and reside in Australia with this unlimited occupant work visa. Certain
foreign-public state workers who have jobs on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List
(SOL) may be eligible for a Subclass 189 visa. This visa requires you to pass the skillset
exam and be funded by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or
home government. The Skilled Independent Work Visa gives you all the advantages of
Australian permanent residency for you and your family.
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
This is a points-tested permanent visa. It is used by skilled workers who have been
nominated by the Australian State or Territory government. With this visa, you can
stay in Australia permanently, work and study in Australia, and travel to and from
Australia for 5 years.
You must get at least 65 points on the points assessment test and be chosen by a State
or Territory government in Australia that is taking part. You need to submit an
Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited by SkillSelect. You have 60 days to apply
for the visa after receiving an invitation.
In the year 2022, the work visa mentioned above will cost 4,045 AUD (2,955 USD).
How to Apply for the Skilled Migration Visa (Subclass 189 and 190)

Make sure you are under the age of 45 at the time you get the invitation to the
Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

You should be able to speak proper English to a competent level to be able to

measured using the international English Language testing system. If you are a
non-native English-speaking applicant, you must undergo a language test as
well.
- Medical Assessment
You will also need to undergo a medical assessment and provide a statement of
results that says you are in good medical condition. This test must be done by a
doctor registered with the Australian embassy in your country.

Australian authorities as well as accessible to Australian companies who may be
seeking someone of your skill- set to recruit.
You will be asked to apply for the visa if you get nominated or sponsored and
your EOI fits the needs of the visa.
- Find a sponsor or get nominated by the government
You ought to be sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a
state or territory government. Once you locate a suitable sponsor, they will give
you a letter of invitation to apply for the visa.

have a qualifying family or company to fund you. This initiative links
competent people with firms searching for foreign public staff. The
government can also nominate you through this program.
