 You have decided China is your next destination. Now your mind is on your Chinese visa application. Whether it be for school, a job, or you want to visit the great country of China. Knowing the best way to get your Chinese visa is important.

Here is a short guide on Chinese visa application. And everything you need for your China visa application as an international applicant.

  Basic China visa information

Before we jump into anything let’s start with the basic China visa information. When applying for a Chinese visa you must apply at the China Visa Application Centre (CVAC) in Abuja or Lagos.

Types of visas

  •  Tourist Visa (L-Visa)
  •  Travel to China for holidays, sightseeing, and visiting family and friends.
  •  F – non-business
  •  Foreigners who intend to go to China for visits, study, tours, and other activities.
  •  M – business
  •  Foreigners who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.
  •  X – study
  •  X1 – Foreigners who intend to study in China for more than 180 days.
  • X2 – Foreigners who intend to study in China for no more than 180 day
  •  Z – work
  • Foreigners who intend to work in China

The processing time for a China visa application is four working days (depending on the visa officer’s decision). 

Still, you should apply at least 30 days before your flight departure. But not earlier than three months. For an urgent visa, there is a possibility to ask for an express service until the next consular day.

 You pay the visa fee after applying at the visa office. The other visa application payment process would be at the visa office.

 Upon picking up the visa, it is necessary to present all the documents needed. Visa pick-up is not needed in person unless the Visa Office has decided otherwise.

 The Embassy reserves the right not to grant the visa to the applicant if it considers it appropriate.

 

  China visa requirements

 Prepare your documents before you start your visa application. Basic documents and other supporting documents for the China visa include:

 

  • Passport – Your original passport with at least six months validity. Two blank visa pages, including one photocopy of your passport’s data and photo page.
  • China visa application form – Download the application form, fill it out, and sign it. (Take the completed application form to the Visa Center to submit your application).
  • One recently taken passport photo –Follow the Chinese Embassy photo guidelines.
  • Proof of legal status (only required if you’re not applying in your country of citizenship).
  • Printed AVAS Confirmation of online reservation of appointment

These are the general visa application requirements. Other requirements depend on the type of visa required. 

Tourist Chinese visa

  • Reservation of return flight tickets
  • Reservation of accommodation

Business Chinese visa

● Invitation letter from Chinese business partner – must be on letterhead paper.

Non-Business Chinese visa

● Invitation letter from Chinese institutions (universities, research centers, etc.). Must be on letterhead paper, signed and stamped.

Study Chinese visa

● Original and photocopy of “Visa Application for Study in China(JW201 or JW202 form)

● Original and photocopy of “Admission Notice.”

Work Chinese visa

● Original of “Alien’s Working License” or “Permit for Foreign Experts” . Usually sent by email in both English and Chinese – please print and submit both.

  Chinese visa application service center

 You must do all Chinese visa applications at the Chinese visa application centers. You’ll find two located in Abuja and Lagos.

 

  China Visa Application Process:

  • Schedule an appointment
  • Scan your passport upon arrival
  • Get a queue number
  • Receive a payment notice and pay the necessary fees at the cashier
  • You will receive a pick-up form. A receipt with the details of your application and pick up date
  • Track the status of your China visa application via the CVAC’s website

Please note: The consular officer has the final say on your China visa. Its validity, duration of stay, and the number of entries.

These Chinese visa prices are subject to change. So it would be best if you prepared by carrying an extra 10,000 or 20,000, as we all know in our country.
