The Senior Data Community Advocate is the first line of education for practitioners in our Community and is responsible for:
- Empowering users with relevant content and webinars
- Contributing to open source projects across the modern data space
- Identifying the topical areas the Community most wants to learn about
- Inspiring and educating data practitioners at online and in-person conferences
- Spearheading other helpful one-to-many educational resources
We’ve spent the last 2 years building the foundation of our Community program and are looking for this role to come in and supercharge the library of resources available to the data practitioners who have helped us make the space so valuable (both IRL and online).
You’ll represent Census at events and proactively engage in data communities (from our own to those like dbt Slack and Locally Optimistic) to help practitioners wherever you can. You’ll also work closely with our growth, product, content, and CS teams to create actionable guides and blog posts, helpful documentation, and engaging webinars and live event series.
- Create multi-channel content across blog posts, webinars, conference stages, podcasts and more for current and future Census customers
- Engage online and in-person with data communities at large, helping out and giving back to the industry
- Give talks at participate in online and offline across the US
- Own and grow educational community programs like our peer-to-peer mentorship program and ongoing workshop series on topics like data modeling, data observability, and stakeholder management.
- Carry out community research to understand the pain points and curiosity areas that motivate today’s data practitioners
- Nerd out on the shiniest and sharpest new data tools to bring cutting-edge resources combined with hard-won industry know-how to our Community members
- Boil up user feedback and lessons to our sales and CS teams to help Census build the best product possible for data teams (and their business teams)
- Act as the public face of Census’s best data practices online and IRL
- Dedicate yourself to sharpening your skills with continued learning and experimentation with new tooling (of course, with support from the team)
- You come from a data analysis background with direct experience writing advanced SQL (e.g. analysis of arbitrary data sets)
- You have experience with the tools in the modern data stack, notably Fivetran, dbt, and Snowflake
- You enjoy technical problem solving and a love of nerding out and teaching about complex data problems
- You have an a proven track record and enthusiasm for creating educational content about data, whether that’s from blog posts, webinars, tactical write ups, open source contributions, or conference talks
- You have high emotional intelligence (EQ) that helps you empathize with practitioners and users to support them in their data journey
- You’re comfortable presenting to live audiences and enjoy meeting with new and existing users where they are: over email, Slack, and Zoom. Or in the wider data community (hi dbt & Locally Optimistic Slack peeps 👋)
- You are a self-starter who takes initiative and is energized by building a prosperous data community through experimentation and iteration
- You’re an excellent communicator; you can distill complicated topics into something clear and succinct
- You’re based in the US and willing to travel to conferences and company events like offsites / onsites

On-target earnings $150,000 – $250,000
